Yep, that was the agent in question, and it seems to be working now. Thank you for your help.

Yes, most consumers just take it on the chin, it's less frustrating than fighting for what is right or what you are owed.

Thanks again for your assistance. I tried a bunch of different combinations and I finally got it to work. It turns out my OCP profile had a missing last name. After I filled it in I passed the Let Us Know page and can now see the agent page. On the Update Account page, the last name field wasn't marked as required so I left it blank before, and I think that was causing the looping to occur.

    Hi,

Other than pings and information about the agent communicating, nothing will show up until there are actual events.

Can you share the agent ID and I'll take a look to make sure everything looks ok.

    Hi,

Can you try again please. There seemed to have been an issue with the sign up pages. You should be able to complete the sign up now.

    Hi,
Yes, you definitely have some problems both with the provider and beyond. As you said, beyond are informational but it doesn't mean they cannot be used.

I also notice that most of the problems are when you might be using the service especially if you work from home. Most are around the 10am to 3 pm and the next high is around 8pm

If you have not been able to get them to fix the problems, that's one thing but if they have admitted they know and cannot fix it, that's another. Let's assume they aren't fixing the problems and you've reported it multiple times. I'll also make the assumption that they aren't taking your facts/findings seriously.

In this sort of case, you should try to find one, two, more, neighbors that would be willing to install agents too. You can make the case that if you can show the proof you need, everyone will end up with better services.

Some providers count on the fact that most people will simply suck it up and go away. They aren't going to make costly repairs unless there is something affecting their bottom line.

However, if you can get others to join you, you can then show your correlated proof on their social pages. It's easy to dismiss one person but it's a whole lot harder when many people are complaining.

If they remove your posts, you could always talk to the city, find someone to listen to you, show them what you have and see if someone higher up will help make a case for you.

If most of the problems are with the providers upstream, you could try to reach them on social media as well.

And of course, we'll be happy to help decipher the data to help you.

In this day and age, as everything we do is being moved onto the Internet, there are no excuses for ongoing unreliable services.

    Hi,

Definitely a bug introduced in a recent commit: thank you for highlighting.

The fix has already been applied: please test it ASAP to confirm all is fine now.

Yes, we played with enabling different DNS but it never really got "ideal".

However after they redid all the connections, one of my "download" scripts became much better -- so I dunno. Our web connections/surfing were not particularly better until the VPN.

I confirm it was a bug in the Activation process.
    It has been fixed!

Thank you for letting us know.

    Hi,

We received the email at support as well and re-sent the activation email. We don't see a bounce so it must be in your spam box or it was blocked by your mail service.

If that is the case, please be sure to whitelist the domains so that you don't miss out on any important emails while using the service.

Hope you received it by the time this reply was sent :).

I forgot but we do offer that. It's under manage and then reset.
I've already done it for you and it should be completely clear of old data now.

Can you confirm with me that everything is ok now once you look.

  • Android agent please?

    Hi,

Our agents run on Windows, Linux, Raspberry and other devices. We don't have an agent for Android. We tested quite a bit and it was pretty much impossible to do it so that folks could get quick alerts and it used up the battery very quickly since it's constantly using the network and consequently, data.

However, you can install the agent on a PC/Laptop that you'll keep on at the location you'd like to monitor and can log into the control panel to view your reports using any mobile.

    Hope this helps.

We don't list Inactives in the reports because those very much confuse people but you can set notifications as you have which is why you see the email but nothing in the reports.

The main objective of the service is to show confirmed IP outages, mainly on the LAN and especially with the provider. All other data is simply helpful in trying to diagnose what is happening.

In other words, what you don't see is sometimes what the problem is. In this case, we're not seeing a lot of IP outages but we know there are disconnections. This tells us that the problem might be failing hardware or bad signal levels somewhere.

Here is what I see for the 27th so far.

This is something we see internally only.

We are working on a consolidated report that will show all of the metrics together in a way that will hopefully explain everything that's going on, in one correlated view.
This has been a huge challenge however for many reasons but we're working on it.

Inactive and Disconnection statuses do not automatically mean IP outages, it just means something stopped working. The agent is not able to communicate with the OutagesIO network but we don't know why since it doesn't seem to be IP related otherwise, the agent should always pick those up. Could be a bad cable, could be signal levels, something along those lines.

So far, the agent was able to confirm that there was just one IP outage that lasted one minute and fifteen seconds but all other issues appear to be non IP related.

This might help explain how the agent works a little and there are other articles in that section that also explain how things work.

Aabout Internet outages alerts and agent statuses

When you have problems like these, if you can find another location using the same provider in the same area that would be willing to monitor, it becomes quite eye opening if both locations seem to be experiencing the same problems.

There is another person experiencing something similar who has been posting in the forums in the past few days too.

Excellent! Thank you so much for your help and I'm glad I was able to get you more data to analyze for the bugfix. Let me know if there is anything else you need from me, otherwise I'll be looking forward to the firmware update. Thanks again!

If you are paying for 80 download, then you have the setting correctly entered and from what I see, your average speed is 43.39 Mbps based on around 24 tests.

It is consistently this rate so either something is using up some of your bandwidth and you're not aware of it or you are getting a bit over half of what you are being promised.

Also, your upload speed seems to average around the 12Mbps also quite consistently.

Other than finding something on your network that is using up bandwidth you're not aware of, then it appears you're not getting what you are paying for. We always suggest finding a neighbor or two that would be willing to install and comparing results.
