Hi all. I'm new to Outages having installed an agent a few days ago after a couple of initial hiccups.

Already showing me what I suspected, regular outages from my ISP as well as fluctuating speeds. When you only get 7mbs max a drop of 50% plus has a huge effect!

What I couldn't find is any information to help with the next step, getting the data to my ISP. I can take a screen shot to capture the data but obviously does not give all of the embedded data you see with a mouse over.

I don't appear to be able to highlight the items in each panel of the dashboard, only the titles.

I'd like to be able to pass as much information/evidence to my ISP when I make another complaint. Too many times it gets knocked back as "we can't find any issues" etc. etc.

I've looked through the forums and tried searching but there does not appear to be any information to tell me how I can capture the dashboard data to use in a "report".

It would be really appreciated if someone can tell me how to get the data in a format I can pass to my ISP (or point me to an existing post?).

    Thanks in advance

      Hi,

We are so happy to hear that you are solving Internet issues using OutagesIO.

Your question is a good one and it is something we have in our list of things to get done.

For a variety of reasons, our control panel doesn't allow sharing very easily and is something that we want to address.

We would like members to be able to not only save a screen but have the ability to share as well.

At the moment, you could take a screen shot of the Light view of the dashboard to see a list of disconnections and outages and you could screen capture as you mouse over details for outage events. In the Extended version of the service, in Historical, Outages, there is a text list of outages which you could capture as well.

Other than these methods, at least for the moment, I cannot think of any other way unless someone else has some ideas.

      Regards,
      OutagesIO Support

Hi, Thanks for the reply. I had a feeling that may have been the case. Functionality seems to be being added at quite a fast rate and for a free tool I can fully understand that these things take time and effort to develop.

I have the skills to merge screen shots and manually pull the data together so can use the data as is. Will just take a little more time than if it could be extracted.

Looks like you guys have all the skills available to produce the reports/stats as per the dashboards etc. but if you need any help as you develop further I use and manipulate large amounts of complex data in my work so happy to help if needed (I'm not a software engineer, just good at using software output ;) )

          Hi,

We appreciate the offer and do reach out now and then.

I have made sure that this topic will come up in today's meeting. We really need to solve this so members can share details with others and their providers on their social pages.

            Hello aceideas

I had the same issue, but what I did was copy and paste the three lines of outage data above the graph. I pasted that into notepad. Unfortunately, and anything beyond the three latest entries is lost. So I was checking the site quite frequently. Filling in the missing ones is possible, but only manually … mouse over the outage graph bar and write down date, time and duration.

            e.g.

2020-08-24 12:55:18: Outage occurred lasting 2 minutes 40 seconds , indicating a problem with your internet provider.

2020-08-22 16:51:35: Outage occurred lasting 39 minutes 57 seconds , indicating a problem with your internet provider.

Good luck. I submitted the 30 some outages in 3 weeks to my ISP. They came out with no excuses and replaced old equipment.

Hi, here is a little insight into something going on in the background.

One of the features missing for a long time has been having the ability to share information with others. Today, we completed a first phase of a sharing feature that should be available soon.

Community members will be able to share what shows in the 'Breakdown of my Internet problems' and 'When my Internet was down' sections that are found in the Light dashboard view. Initially, we'll support Facebook and Twitter. We may also have an option that lets you download the latest view or the last share that was generated.

Once this first phase is tested for a while, working to our expectations, we'll begin work on another share, this time for Extended reports.

Our plan is to generate something that shows the details you would see when you mouse over the outages graph. Those details include when the outage started, ended, how long it lasted, hop, IP, the network (Provider) owner and so on.

Sometimes we are asked why we make some features available in Community, Extended or Enterprise and the answer is always time and costs involved in the ongoing, never ending development of the service. We want to keep the free Community version which seems to work perfectly for a lot of members and the other levels help us to do just that.

As we see how the sharing features will work and more importantly, if people are even using them, it will help to decide what the next steps will be.

              Regards,
              OutagesIO Support

                Hi,

As an update, I don't know if you've seen it but we now have the first sharing of reports.

It can be found when you go to the Light dashboard view. You can also download an image of the report to post somewhere else.

We continue to work on this and once we have it where we'd like, we'll look at other areas of the site that members could share with their Internet provider, friends etc.

                Regards,

                    Hi,

We have a very long list of features/functions that will be added into the service, it just takes a bit of time to get to every one of them.

That said, based on this post, we recently added the ability to share some outage/stats on Facebook/Twitter and that same image can be downloaded and shared via email, posts etc.

I cannot say what the format will be but it is something we are working on and trying to come up with. In fact, we started working on some ideas last week and will be continuing that this coming week.

                      @DeanONH:

We need to be able to download all collected data in the form usable by MS Excel. I suggest comma delimited format.

I believe that someone is going to respond to an email that you sent about this. This is important to us as well and recently became a higher priority.
